Plan, Prepare, Teach
In online learning, all course activity is completed online with no in-person on-campus activity required.Plan, Prepare, Teach is a framework to expedite online course development and delivery to move beyond remote teaching toward engaging, student-centered learning. The framework emphasizes applying evidence-based practices for learners, aligned with learning outcomes, while ensuring accessibility for students. University Counsel has prepared Accessibility Guidelines to help with online course development.
Additionally, you are invited to join any of the guided course support workshops that meet your course development needs. We are offering them multiple times to accommodate summer schedules. Find out more about the guided course support workshops, and check the calendar to find a time that works with your schedule. Registration is required (registration links are below the description for each workshop). Also, you must be logged into Zoom with your Cornell NetID to access the workshops.

- Determine your learning outcomes
- Make sure your syllabus is updated and reflects how you will teach in an online setting
- Identify gaps (in course content, technical skills, readiness and comfort, etc.)
- Consider active learning strategies to engage your students
- Create an assessment plan for your course

- Check guidelines for weekly teaching time expectations* by course duration and credits

Familiarize yourself with available technology tools and resources for online teaching
- Create and assemble your course content to support your activities
- Use the video tool comparison table to decide which options best address your course
- Create video lectures and recorded sessions or interviews (including captions) using Zoom (live sessions), Panopto (record lectures), and/or Kaltura (share video content)
- Create or modify downloadable course materials (Office, PDF, etc.) to ensure they are accessible to your students
- Use other digital options as needed to engage and assess your students online or in person, such as PowerPoint Voiceover (to record a slide show with narration), Gradescope (to streamline and standardize paper-based, digital, and code assignments), iClickers (to poll students), Digication (to create digital portfolios)
- Ensure that your course content is accessible to maintain an inclusive online teaching environment.

- Evaluate your course by using the Online Course Readiness Checklist as a guide
- Promote an inclusive environment
- Make accommodations
- Facilitate group activities in both online and in-person settings
- Deliver your assessments and promote academic integrity
