Best Practices for Online Learning: Lessons from Spring 2020

This workshop will use lessons shared by faculty and students from the spring semester to help you prepare for Fall 2020. We will discuss those lessons, introduce the Online Course Readiness Checklist and provide recommendations and resources for online learning.

In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to reflect on what you learned about inclusion, communication, and diversity in online environments this spring. Explore a framework for organizing your design process that invites student participation, interaction, and reflection.

Building Community in Online Spaces

In this workshop, we will identify, brainstorm, and discuss strategies for building communities in online spaces. We will explore techniques and tools that can be implemented to set the stage for and maintain an engaged learning community over the course of the semester. Drawing on workshop participant experiences, we will discuss ways to sustain instructor presence and create avenues for communication, as well as tools that can help.

This workshop explores a variety of active learning strategies for online learning, along with tips for effective implementation. We will discuss options for both individual and group work.
