Institutes

Take advantage of additional programs to enrich teaching and learning. Contact us by telephone, email, or drop in to the Center for more information.

Active Learning Institute

How might you engage students and encourage them to participate in their own learning more directly? How does active learning help people learn? What strategies, from the simple to the complex, would you implement in your classes? This one-day institute for graduate students and postdocs will help you construct activities that encourage students to grapple with course content and practice expert-thinking.

Teaching Portfolio Institute

How do you document and showcase your teaching and professional strengths for your future career? This one-day institute will guide participants through the process of developing your teaching portfolio. Collect your documents, select what best showcases your development, reflect on your professional journey. You will leave with a draft electronic teaching portfolio, which will include a sample syllabus based on best-practice course design principles, a teaching philosophy and a diversity statement, and more.

Inclusive Teaching Institute

The two-day Inclusive Teaching Institute offers an opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary peer-group to explore how to create and support an inclusive learning environment. A four-point framework invites entry from all disciplinary perspectives: Consider who you are, who you teach, how you teach, and what you teach. By the end of this institute, you will have created an action plan for future teaching.
