Fall 2020 Grad & Postdoc Course Preparation Workshop Recordings

To provide graduate teaching assistants and postdoctoral fellows with additional support for online teaching, the Center for Teaching Innovation has designed a series of three online workshops on adapting teaching strategies to the learning settings we all will face during the upcoming Fall 2020 semester. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows with teaching duties are invited to attend any or all of these workshops.

Leading Effective Discussions Online with Zoom

Description: As all courses this fall will be taught online or in-person teaching with remote access, join us to explore best practices for leading effective online discussions using Zoom. Practice strategies to engage students and facilitate learning through the use of Zoom features such as chat, breakout rooms, and polling.

How do you Build Community in Online Classes?

Description: Fostering a sense of community, especially in an online class, is essential to achieving successful learning outcomes. Drawing on participants’ experiences, we will discuss how to create welcoming course experiences and create avenues for communication. Our exploration of these strategies will include using tools such as Canvas Discussions, Hypothesis, and FeedbackFruits. Join us for a walk-through of the steps to develop a strong learning community this fall.

Supporting the Emotional Well-Being of Our Students, 2020 Edition

Description: As the Fall semester approaches, we will all be entering a profoundly changed living and learning environment. In this workshop, we will explore the stress that your students may experience and how this could manifest in an online space. Join other TAs to discuss strategies and resources available to support you and your students at Cornell to enhance resilience and improve well-being.The Center for Teaching Innovation is presenting this workshop in partnership with Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS).
