Amy Cheatle

Assistant Director for AI and Learning

As Assistant Director for AI and Learning, Amy collaborates with faculty, students, and staff to shape how generative artificial intelligence is understood and used in higher education. Amy is a trusted experimentalist and resource for instructors reimagining their teaching. She has partnered on course redesign and assessment strategies, advised on policy development at the individual course or departmental level, crafted approaches to thoughtfully integrate or intentionally limit AI use, and championed strategic AI pilots.

Amy is completing a doctorate in Science and Technology Studies, with research interests at the intersection of automation, craft knowledge, and human-centered fields. Her work explores how disciplines with deeply embodied and tacit ways of knowing, such as surgery, lutherie, and the arts, can sharpen our thinking about what AI can and cannot replace in teaching and learning. She also holds a BFA and MST in fine arts from Rochester Institute of Technology and a master's in science and technology studies from Cornell University.
