Active Learning Institute

Active learning encompasses a variety of teaching techniques that help students process and practice what they are learning. If you are new to active learning or have tried it before and are looking for creative ideas to energize and deepen learning in your classroom, this institute will help you through the process of designing learning activities that work for your discipline.

We invite you to participate in this institute with two, morning sessions. This is an opportunity to:

  • Learn more about common active learning strategies and the principles behind why they are effective
  • Start designing both simple and more complex active learning activities
  • Plan out a class session that includes both lecture and active learning opportunities
  • Discuss how to foster a positive classroom community for active learning.

Who Can Attend

All faculty, staff involved with teaching or teaching support, and teaching postdocs at Cornell University are welcome to attend the institute. We ask that you commit to attending both sessions because the topics will build on each other and it helps create a learning community with richer discussions.
