Immersive Technologies

Welcome to the Creative Technology Lab's Immersive Teaching & Learning space. Here, we equip educators with the resources they need to tackle teaching challenges and achieve learning goals using immersive technologies. These technologies include Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), which seamlessly integrate digital elements into the physical world.

Overview

When we talk about immersive learning technologies, we’re referring to virtual reality (VR), augmented reality(AR), mixed reality (MR), and other technologies and platforms that assist with simulations and visualizations. Extended reality (XR) is an umbrella term for these reality-altering mediums. Each of these mediums uses hardware and software to alter the user's perception of the reality they are experiencing.

Guided by the theories of experiential and constructivist learning, immersive technologies enhance hands-on educational experiences. They're used for a variety of purposes, including skills training simulations, virtual field trips, empathy development, perspective-taking, and visualizing complex ideas. AR/VR tools are versatile across disciplines, aiding in foreign language instruction, cross-cultural training, STEM concept visualization, lab practice, medical training, and more. They're also crucial in art and design, helping to create innovative works and design models alongside their use in engineering and architecture.
