What is the Academic Assessment Institute?
The Academic Assessment Institute offers faculty an opportunity to develop strategies for meaningful assessment practice. The institute comprises two workshops, each focused on a different level of assessment.
- Day 1, Classroom-level Assessment Workshop
- Day 2, Major-level Assessment Workshop
The institute will consist of activities and discussions focused on key foundational concepts and the practical application of those concepts in Cornell classrooms. Both workshops within the institute will focus on the critical role of assessment in the learning process and what we should actually do with assessment data.
When is the institute?
Faculty may choose to attend either or both of the one-day workshops, depending on their interests and needs.
Classroom-level assessment workshop
This workshop is designed for all faculty looking to refine and enhance their classroom assessment skills. Participants will have an opportunity to engage with colleagues, brainstorm new approaches, and explore solutions to common assessment challenges.

This workshop is designed for faculty tasked with coordinating program- or major-level assessment. Participants will have an opportunity to pragmatically consider structure and pacing for the assessment of student learning across groups of courses.
