What to Know about Respondus LockDown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser through which a Canvas quiz can be taken while ensuring students have no access to any external materials on the testing device. Additionally, the LockDown Browser prevents students from copying, pasting, taking screenshots, or printing while the browser is in use. Canvas quizzes utilizing the browser cannot be completed through any other type of browser.

Please note:

  • The use of LockDown Browser does not guarantee academic integrity — students may still have access to alternative internet-enabled devices. As a result, this browser is only intended to be utilized for in-person, proctored exams.
  • Cornell University is not piloting the separate Respondus Monitor product, which is intended for remote proctoring.
  • Devices managed by Cornell will need admin support to install LockDown Browser for taking assessments.
