Perusall
Perusall allows group annotation of a number of media types, including:
- PDFs stored in your Canvas course or uploaded directly to Perusall
- websites
- online video
- podcasts
- Cornell CAMP materials
Instructors can access insights on student activity and auto-grading if they choose, and can make use of functions that deter student use of AI.
Students can upload their own files to annotate privately or in groups, access peer review assignments, and “upvote” peer annotations.
Getting started with Perusall
Instructors
To use Perusall, instructors will need to first activate it in their Canvas course using the Navigation menu. Then, following the new Perusall link added to the Canvas Navigation Bar, they will create assignments on Perusall’s site before linking to them through Canvas Assignments or Activities.
Please note: Due to copyright restrictions, Cornell University Library materials may not be uploaded to Perusall. Instructors can provide CAMP materials for their students to annotate by requesting an access code from the Cornell Bookstore at the time of ordering materials. Students who opt-out of CAMP can purchase materials à la carte.
For additional support, we recommend the following:
- Access Perusall’s instructor knowledge base or visit Perusall and request assistance directly
- Contact canvas@cornell.edu for a one-on-one consultation
Students
Students are invited to explore the student user’s guide. It has great resources about getting started in Perusall including navigating it, leaving your first comments, and their dedicated student knowledge base.
