Faculty Institute for Diversity

What is the Faculty Institute for Diversity?

The two-day Faculty Institute for Diversity offers an opportunity for an interdisciplinary peer-group of faculty to transform a course through the lens of diversity and inclusion. Explore a framework that invites entry from all disciplinary perspectives: consider who you are, who you teach, how you teach, what you teach, and how to create and sustain learning environments. By the end of this institute, participants create an action plan for next semester’s teaching.

Who may apply?

Instructors from all disciplines who teach credit-bearing, semester-length courses at Cornell are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Registration information

Out of caution for public health, and in line with university guidelines, the 2022 Faculty Institute for Diversity will not be taking place in January. We look forward to offering it again as soon as conditions allow.

Learning outcomes

At the conclusion of the institute, participants will be able to:

  • select a framework to support inclusive teaching
  • explain why and how social identity becomes salient in teaching and learning
  • use selected evidence-based pedagogical strategies to create and sustain inclusive learning environments
  • design a plan to create or revise a course
